Chris Brown in court Chris Brown pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles court to charges of assault and criminal threats stemming from the alleged beating of his girlfriend, R&B singer Rihanna. If convicted on the two felony counts charged against him, Brown could face a sentence ranging from probation to four years and eight months in state prison.

His mother was also present during the hearing, sitting in the front row of the courtroom and giving her 19-year old son moral support.

Rihanna, on the other hand, did not appear in court, but her lawyer Danny Etra was there. Etra said after the Brown arraignment that his client would be pleased if the case were concluded quickly and fairly.

“If asked to testify, she will do so,” he said after being asked if Rihanna would cooperate with prosecutors.

“She believes that the quicker this case is over, the more quickly she can get back to her life and her career, which is exactly what she’d like to do,” Etra said.

Etra also added, “Rihanna is in fine spirits, she’s doing fine.” The 21-year old hitmaker is currently spending time with family in her home country, Barbados.

The next court hearing in the case is on April 29.
