9 / Nine (2009)
When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone and machines roam & dominate the earth.
9 discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from these fearsome machines, and despite being the neophyte of the group, he convinces the others to get out of hiding and fight for their survival.
This group, also known as ’stitchpunks’ must summon their individual strengths to defeat these beastly machines and salvage the legacy of civilization.

- This is the second theatrically released computer-animated film to receive PG-13 rating, following Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001).
- The design of 3 and 4 is based on a pair of garden gloves — the thumb can be seen in the back, and the wrist is gathered at the top.
- This is based on a 2005 computer-animated short film with the same title and same director, Shane Acker.
- Tim Burton (The Night Before Christmas, Corpse Bride) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) are the film producers.
- Part of the film’s marketing strategy is its planned release date of 9 on September 9, 2009 (”9/9/09″).
- This is the second animated feature film to be released by Focus Features. The first was Coraline.
- In April 2009, the movie’s Scientist began making journal entries on Facebook page called ‘9 Scientist’. Daily thoughts and images of his inventions are updated frequently. The Facebook page seemingly references events leading up to the release of the movie.
- Most recently, a new viral campaign promotional website for 9 has been launched. It sheds some light upon the background of the 9 world.
