Sharp and Japanese network KDDI Corp. had teamed up to develop the world’s first “eco-friendly” cellphone.
The yet-to-be-priced phone has a solar panel on top that can derive 80% of its charge in total from the sun. A 10-minute solar charge will be able to provide one minute of talk time or two hours of standby power.
The Sharp handset is due for release in Japan by June but there is no shedule for a U.S. or worldwide release yet.

Solar powered cell phones will be a wonderful convenience for us all.
I can see them on my black dashboard just soaking in them rays..LOL!
Maybe we should have one that soaks up the heat? I am still awaiting the fuel cell phones and laptops…they will truly make portable items last a LOT LONGER than the present batteries. Interesting enough there was an invention where the batteries were wrapped in a solar array so they charged themselves in the sun…if all this technology comes to fruition pretty soon we will NOT need batteries and the disposal costs they present in the landfill. Nuff said..
